Why Is The Chasm Between Islam And Christianity Growing?

The chasms existing between major religions have always been present. This gap is a strong, unfortunate condition which exists between almost every religion on earth. The conflict between Islam and Christianity, however, is a particularly wide, particularly difficult separation. A large part of the conflict rises from the faith and solid belief of both religions that their faith is the only truth, and those who do not agree are not only wrong, but offensive in their conquest to gain followers. Islam, although strongly devoted to peace, follows scripture calling for defense of the faith, at any and all costs. Christianity, on the other hand, is less defending of their faith and more focused on gathering and converting all who disagree with their beliefs. There seem to be three major roots to the conflict between Christianity and Islam. The first is the firm belief in each party’s respective religions, and the seeming unwillingness to coexist peacefully. It is important to understand the different aspects of each religion to understand the roots of the conflict that seems to have no end. The second is the role that politics play on the conflict, taking what could be, and once was, a war of words to a war of military strength. The third is pride. Pride is a dangerous weapon that is fueled both by political and religious fervor. In the face of this growing animosity, what can be done to alleviate the differences between the two religions?
In the past, the conflict was merely based on actions of each party, existing in close proximity to each other and avoiding the association of each religion with certain organizations. In our modern day, that conflict has not only consisted between Islam and Christianity, but has transformed into a political conflict between multiple governments.
