Flight performance of 58 cadets after training on a simulation was monitored. The simulation was designed to mimic specific piloting skills or more general skills such as, attention and the ability to process and respond to large quantities of information. Subsequent performance in real flight was significantly better for both simulation groups compared to those who did not receive this treatment.

Wang and He, (2000), studied personality and mental health in relation to chronically addicted game players. Players were classified as addicted to computer games under the conduct disorders described in the international classification of diseases (ICD, 10th revision). Personality was assessed using the extraversion, psychoticism, neuroticism and lie subscales of Eysenck’s personality questionnaire (EPQ). Addicted participants scored significantly higher on all the subscales when compared to healthy controls. Mental health status was assessed using the SCL-90 questionnaire. Addicted participants reported a lower state of mental health when compared to healthy controls. The authors suggested a tentative causal role of pathological game playing upon problematic personality and mental health issues. It is worth noting this study is representative of a minority group only and therefore needs to be treated accordingly. Caution needs to be exercised when generalising to other populations. Often other literature has found excessive playing to the point of life interference prevalent among a small minority only. (Griffiths,Davies and Chappell,2004).
