The laws simply mean to reduce crime by making it more difficult to obtain firearms that are often used to commit violent crimes. However, with a look at history and some common sense, it is easily seen that gun control laws only hurt the people they intend to help. To see the major faults with gun control, all one would have to do is take a look at the simple methods criminals can and do use to work their way around gun control laws currently in effect. Gun control, as we know it, consists of the government restricting the ability of individual citizens to purchase weapons. The different types of gun control vary from waiting periods between when you purchase the gun and when you actually get it, background checks so that high-risk people can't purchase guns through legal channels, and completely banning certain types of guns.
