‘The Argument For Breeding Licenses’

petual problems are due to the fact that a fair number of people responsible for bringing more people into this world are simply unfit for the job. Why is it that we need a license to hunt a deer, to go fishing or, of course, to operate heavy machinery, or even to get married, but we do not need a license to do the most important job in the world – to be responsible for another human being from birth? We want to make sure that our daycare providers are capable of handling children or that our nursing homes have the best staff to care for our elderly, why would we not want to make sure those children are receiving the best care in their very own homes?

Some may say that it is balanced by those who die every day, but either fortunately or not, this is not the case. People are living longer lives and women/ are becoming pregnant and giving birth at younger ages, even in more ‘developed’ and ‘educated’ countries such as the United States. “While the birth rate among Latinas dropped slightly, the number "remains stubbornly high" at more than 90 births per 1,000 girls, is comparable to such rates in economically disadvantaged countries where girls are more likely to have lower self-esteem and to give birth at a younger age”, Diana Bonta stated, director of the California Department of Health Services,” (Population, Family Planning, & Ecology News Digest Archives January - April 2002. http://www.ov...
