The Society for Psychical Research (SPR) was founded in 1882 in Cambridge, England, to study the paranormal using scientific methodology, with the American Society for Psychical Research (ASPR) opening only a year later (parapsych.org). Among the earliest studies of telepathy, Professor Gilbert Murray was tested by placing message “senders” in another room and Murray would describe the sender’s thoughts. While telepathy most often occurs spontaneously in incidents of crisis or between closely related persons, a telepathic experiment was conducted during the Apollo 14 mission in 1971, proving that distance and relationship is not always a barrier. Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell conducted the experiment with four recipients on Earth, focusing on sequences of twenty-five random numbers. The mean chance of this experiment was forty correct out of two hundred sequences. Two of the four recipients guessed fifty-one correctly, exceeding Mitchell’s expectations (www.themystica.com 1).
