a student has a big test or a quiz to study for. The student will not study because they went to an athletic event and they will not receive the grade that they will normally receive. If a student decides to go to a game over choosing to study, they are heading in the wrong direction, and that is not a smart choice at all. That just causes unneeded stress upon them. Athletes should have more lenient requirements for college admissions because the school depends on them to bring in high caliber athletes and bring a higher prestige to the school, and therefore, more applicants and higher caliber prospective students.” (Athletes Should) If that prospect gets hurt then what do the coach or the schools do for him or her? Nothing, now he or she is in danger if his or her career is being ended. It’s possible that the athletes will have nothing to fall back on, because everything was handed to them in the classroom.
Lowering the admission requirements makes high school students not work as hard. They look at it as; they don’t have to worry because the college wants them so regardless of the grades they will find a way to get them accepted. Little do they know that is not even the case anymore, you have to meet the requirements of the NCAA and that entails you to have a 2.0 with a SAT score of 1010 or better. The higher the GPA, the lower the SAT score can be it’s on a sliding scale. Just like it may help student athletes, it hurts students who have a 3.0 GPA. If you are not a 4.0 student or an athlete, it’s kind of hard to get into a college you want. So basically if you’re an average student, and trying to get in to college, your chances are reduced because of the athletes and the students who have a very high GPA.
