THE SUPER BOWL

The Super Bowl is the greatest sporting event that the United States has to offer. On the last Sunday of January of each year millions of people gather around TV’s, at the local bars, the actual game, or the party that they go to every year to watch two teams battle for the Lombardi Trophy. The Super Bowl is a place where stars are made and hearts can be broken. The sheer number of people who watch the game is astonishing. This event shows what the American culture and value is all about: entertainment, pride, and winning. America only loves one loser and the lovable losers, the Chicago Cubs. America loves a winner and always has. The Super Bowl shows both of the culture and values of America to a T.
When looking at the Super Bowl, one the first things you have to look at are the teams. Two teams out of 32 make it to this world famous game. 6 teams make it to the playoffs and advance by playing in one game series until they lose or make it to the Super Bowl. Everyone has a team that they root for. The fans of these teams follow their favorite team where ever the team goes whether it be going to the game or watching on TV. While fans are very supportive of their respective teams they are by no means on the same level with the soccer hooligans of England. The fans are there to cheer for there favorite team but a mostly there for the exciting atmosphere and social aspects.
The atmosphere of a Super Bowl can be described as electric. Whether it is the pre game show or the game people show up in hoards and pay a great deal of money to experience the atmosphere of the Super Bowl. The atmosphere is can be separated into many parts: the pre game show, the national anthem, the coin toss, the first half of the game, the halftime show, the second half, the end of the game ceremony/post game interviews, and the commercials.
