In today sports world sports gambling goes hand and hand with it. Sport gambling has grown from and illegal activity to a great business over the years. The questions that many people ask is where did sport gambling start, how did it get so popular, and how and where does someone make a bet.
The mystery of where and when sports gambling actually started is a hard thing figure out. The first thing is to look at where did gambling start out. What makes it tough is the fact that gambling when it first started was illegal. Most of the gambling was card games that where done secretly. Matter of fact the only times in history that people even here about gambling in sports is when people talk about the Chicago White Sox who threw the World Series, and when Pete Rose gambled on his own sport. The only thing that people know is that over the years a sport gambling has grown to one of the biggest businesses that deals with sports. So what makes sports gambling so popular with people these days is the thrill. Nick the Greek said “ The greatest pleasure in life is gambling and winning. The second greatest pleasure is gambling and losing.”(Bernie P. pg. 88). Another thrill that people get from gambling is the fact that there is no such thing as a sure thing. Malcolm X once said “ If you see someone winning all the time, he isn’t gambling, he’s cheating.” (Bernie P. pg. 95). The problem with gambling getting so popular is the fact that gambling is a big reason for families divorcing, and people losing their houses. The are some of the risk that make gambling so exciting and so popular these days.
Where did sports gambling start at is a question that nobody can answer? The reason that nobody knows is that for the longest time it was outlawed. Most of the gambling took place within bars and pool halls.
