Snowboarding

It’s the first snowfall my stomach turns and I almost cry I’m so happy, only two more big ones I say to myself and I’ll be able to snowboard. Snowboarding makes me so happy the mountain air, the exercise, and the people I meet.

I’m most happy when I’m on the mountain and the air is breezing by me as I’m going down. It’s so refreshing from the big city lights and noises of Sault Ste. Marie. When I’m driving to the hill I get butterflies from all the excitement. The drive to the hill is sometimes risky from the previous nights snowfall, but when I’m driving and my music is on and my friends and I are talking I still get anxious and the butterflies are always present. When I finally get to the hill and step out of the car it’s like a whole new world I take a deep breathe of the cool mountain fresh air and strap up for a long and well deserved day on the hill.

I’m a student and it’s really hard to find time to get to the gym or go for a walk, snowboarding is my means of exercise. When I go back country I have to hike up a mountain for at least an hour, to get the best ride. I strap my snowshoes on, my board on my back, and friends either behind or in front of me and away we go up an untouched mountain. The hills we visit are covered in bush which makes it hard to get through, we get lucky when we hit a logging trail and get to ride the virgin powder (never been snowboarded on). When boarding at the hill I still manage to get a lot of exercise when we build a jump instead of going on the lift which takes 8 minutes to ride up we simply walk back up the hill, and ride back down from mid way up. After doing this a numerous amount of time you get exhausted. I’m always happy at the end of the day when I can say I had a good work out.

Working at the resort makes for some interesting encounters. When your at the hill your either a snowboarder or your not. I always meet so many different walks of life when I’m on...
