When I first enrolled in this class I went in knowing that the only reason that I took the class is because it is required for my Sports Administration degree. I didn’t even know what the class was really going to be about. After I found out that the teacher for the class was Kevin Fite, I had a better understanding of what the class might be about.

Being an athlete here at the university, I have always been apart of the athletic department and have been able to see some of the behind the scenes work that goes into running an athletic department. One thing that I know I will get out of this class is a better understanding of the NCAA rules that I have to follow everyday. Now that all of the scandals are going on, you get to see first hand how the NCAA and the school’s specific administration handle things. I think that most athletes could be asked if they can or can’t do something regarding NCAA rules and they wouldn’t know what to do. I think that athletes that get into trouble aren’t talked to about what they can or can’t do. I know some don’t have any regard to the rules, but still some just don’t know. I know that we as a football team have the rules meeting before the season, but I wonder if all colleges go as in depth as we do.

I think that one of the biggest contributors to all the trouble and chaos that goes on in college athletics, is the media. They can take any story and make a big deal about it for no reason. That is what happened to us and other Texas schools just the other week. From that coverage some people questioned our university when there was no validity to the story. I think that Mr. Maggard and Coach Briles handled the situation exactly how it should be handled. They went on air and told everyone that we have nothing to hide, and I think that shut everyone up.
