Since the early 1900’s hockey has been around. The main piece of equipment in hockey is the stick. In the beginning there was only one type of stick, the wooden one, but as time has progressed science has made sticks available in many different types of composites. The choice of the pros and other players has changed over the years with all the different varieties of sticks. They chose their stick mainly with what feels good and what is light.
There are four main types of sticks now, the traditional wooden stick, which is all one piece, the aluminum stick, the fiberglass, and the sticks made of two or more composites, which are just the shafts or the part you hold on to.
The wooden hockey stick has been around from the beginning. It is made from cedar or white ash, and can be light or heavy, depending on the type of wood used. The wooden stick is a very popular stick because of its durability and its price. Many of the people that used wooden sticks growing up prefer them to the newer models, just for the fact that there comfortable with them, and there are many choices of manufactures to choose from. The drawbacks to a wooden stick are that they can break easier depending on the type of shot or how u play during a game, aggressive or passive. Since they are cheaper in price many people don’t mind buying them over and over again.
The aluminum stick hit the market a few years back and has made a big impact on hockey. The aluminum stick, which is lighter than the wooden and is very durable, is a good buy. Once you purchase the shaft all you have to buy then are replacement blades for it, the bottom of the stick with the curve on it, which are only fifteen dollars. Since it is so light the speed of ones shot is greatly increased, which makes the scores higher and the speed of the game faster. The aluminum stick has its faults.
