Troubles And Issues

1 Pages 332 Words

In the virtual café a lot of topics have been thrown around. Terrorism brings up two popular sociological ideas, troubles and issues. Both similar in definition, issues are values cherished by groups that are felt to be threatened, and troubles are situations that occur that cause and individual’s beliefs or values to feel threatened. So, by following the definitions of troubles and issues terrorism is a combination of both.
We realize that terrorism is an issue in life. But we don’t show to do anything about it until something drastic happens. A great example of this is the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. People knew that there wasn’t peace between the United States and Afghanistan, but we failed to do anything about it. Now, this is an issue because groups of people are actually doing something, so that something like the attack on the World Trade Center won’t happen again.
The big picture of this issue is what makes it a trouble as well. The troubles are what happen to the people who have lost a loved one. If we were not to feel so threatened as a society we would have done something to make peace with the people in the Middle East. Then maybe the world trade towers and 5000 plus people would still be here today. Since the attacks on the World Trade Center did take place and it is an issue that is what makes this issue a trouble. Individuals are afraid to go back to work, and the nation is afraid to fly. They can’t find the comfort of feeling safe. True these sociological views are only a “trouble” if you personally feel threatened, but no matter what, it is still and “issue”.
In conclusion, terrorism will still remain “active” because until we as individuals and a nation can face the facts that things can’t change as a society unless we do something about it, we will have a lot of individuals in the world with just troubles....
