In contemporary society many cultural institutions are changing, evolving and developing. Within Same Sex Intimacies the authors concentrate on the above regarding families of choice and the experiments that are occurring in order to achieve them with total focus on non-heterosexuals.

The three co-authors of this book all specialize in the field of sociology and social policy studies. For example Jeffrey Weeks is a professor of sociology and is dean of Humanities and social science at South Bank University. Who has also written a number of publications within this area of gender issues, such as “Making Sexual History”2001, Between the Acts, Lives of Homosexual Men 1885-1967, 1998 and Invented Mortalities: Sexual Values in an Age of Uncertainty, 1995.Brian Heaphy who is senior lecturer in sociology at Nottingham Trent University and Catherine Donovan who is principle lecturer and team leader of sociology and social policy at Sunderland University.


Within this review we will explore this text in a number of ways, firstly we will summarise the content, this will be followed by an exploration of the authors theme, the evidence presented to support this theme and a discussion regarding the arguments and evidence used in which an elaboration will be made on how strong/weak, convincing/unconvincing these arguments actually are.

We will then close with a brief evaluation regarding the texts overall assumptions, arguments and conclusion.
