in Africa because sex is only for procreation and not for pleasure. This flies in the face of the fact that there are so many prostitutes who have sex, not for procreation, but for money and the Johns that utilize such services do so for pleasure. Conflict has mushroomed the AIDS rate in women because male soldiers both man and boy, rape anything that wears a dress, even sometimes other men. Rape is used as a tool of deterrence and suppression of the populace in a region. The emphasis on virginity has played a large role in the spread of AIDS as well. A virgin female is worth much more than one who is not. This has led to an increase in anal sex where the spread of the disease is much easier. Also men who are positive stopped caring about protection because it is too late for them, so they go around having unprotected sex with unsuspecting women. AIDS will have an impact on the world like no other disease. The only one that can compare is the Bubonic Plague of the Middle Ages where one- third of the known world’s population was eradicated. AIDS has also dropped the average life expectancy from around sixty years of age to forty. This has caused much apathy among Africans because they neither see any future, nor do they have hope of a better life.

As mentioned previously, AIDS affects women at a disproportionate rate than men, this is but one cause of most poor people to be women, and another is that poverty has a direct correlation with the education of women.
