Act I, scene ii.---Viola is seen here suffering from the shipwreck of which she and her twin brother were in. She fears he is dead. She also needs to disguise herself as a boy as she is alone and has come upon the seacoast of Illyria. Viola needs employment and she desires to work for Lady Olivis. After talking with the captain, she has opted instead to seek a job at the court of Duke Orsino.
Act I, scene iii.---Enter in the drunken and foolish characters of Sir Toby and Sir Andrew. They are getting inebriated, much at the chagrin of Maria who is the chambermaid of Olivia. Sir Toby secretly wants Sir Andrew to woo Lady Olivia. Sir Toby figures that if he can get his niece married off to this cad, then Toby will benefit from Sir Andrew’s wealth also.
Act I, scene iv.---Valentine is a butler of sorts for the Duke and we are now at court. Valentine has entered in with Viola, who is disguised as a young lad going by the name of Cesario. Orsino wants to send Cesario off to “woo” lady Olivia for him, since Olivia will have ...
