Should Elephant Hunting Limit Be Removed?



Limits on hunting elephants should be adjusted. They balance the environment for the other animals. The poachers in the 1980-1990 put elephants on the endangered species list. Since the ivory trade has been closed elephants numbers have increased. Closing the ivory trade dramatically made a difference. Throughout the country ranchers have been opened for captive breeding (“Endangered in the Wild”pp.4). The growing community is now pushing elephants out of their habitats. The lack of land, in heavy elephant populated areas has extremely dropped numbers (Rodrick Mukumbira pp.2). There for limits on hunting these magnificent creatures should be revised to control the elephants from endangering the community.
Elephants make a difference in the environment. Elephants are like the bull-dozers of the wild. They push down trees and break down brush. Elephants also dig waterholes: create salt licks, and their fecies creates food for baboons and birds. This maintains the food chain and keeps it balanced. Thus making them significant to Mother Nature. Without elephants many animals would die. (“Endangered in the Wild”pp.4). The communities are growing so swiftly, the elephants have no where to go. This in turn creates tourism. Tourism brings money and jobs which advance their economy. Devoid of the elephant the community would in turn loss grand amounts of money (Brahima Ouedrago pp.1-2).
During 1980-1990 the elephant population dropped 1.2 million. At that point in time there were only 625,000 elephants which was down from 5-10 million elephants in the 1930’s. There were as many as 300 elephants slaughtered per-day throughout the 80’s and the 90’s. Poachers have killed them for their ivory. Usually associated with drug activity.
