Acute Leukemia

Acute leukemia is a mostly fatal disease if not caught right away. In simple terms, acute leukemia is cancer in the blood cells of the body. There are also many types of acute leukemia, each depending on the age of the person who has it and how rapidly it affects you. The type I am most interested in is acute Myelogenous Leukemia. This is the type of leukemia that my uncle died of recently so I was very interested to learn more about it.
Acute Myelogenous Leukemia is a disease in which a malignancy occurs in the white blood cells. The exact cause is not known, but it may be linked to cigarette smoke, benzene, and other drugs. It can affect any age range but when you are younger you are more likely to fix the inefficiency in your white blood cells. If untreated, your life expectancy is about three to four months.
If you have this disease you may feel extra tired, have fevers, frequent nose bleed, or experience joint and muscle pain. My uncle had a severe nose bleed and went to get it checked out and was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia. There are a couple ways to treat the disease. One is to undergo chemotherapy. You take drugs and go through radiation. If you have a severe case you may need to undergo blood stem cell transplants. It transplants healthy blood producing cells in your body. My uncle probably would have needed this because he had a severe case of the disease.
Acute Myelogenous Leukemia is a disease that is often fatal if not treated. It is a sneaky disease so take care and get tested....
