y took the drug in search of a truth serum. When the Army failed they too set MDMA aside, never giving an official reason for the sudden loss of interest in MDMA. Once again years passed before MDMA was brought back into the hands of a scientist. During the 1970’s Alexander Shuglin became the new MDMA researcher. Shuglin took research into his own hands after studying the drug and became the first human on record to take MDMA. Shuglin research led him to believe that MDMA was the key to psychotherapy. Soon psychiatrists were using MDMA as a physiotherapeutic medicine in patients. MDMA was soon called “penicillin for the soul” because it enhanced communication in patient’s sessions and allowed users to achieve insights about their problems. The new miracle drug once again did not last long. This time I was not due to its lack of success, this time the FDA sopped its use. The FDA had not approved MDMA and refused the use of it in humans. Animals used to test MDMA developed brain damage and the FDA refused to continue the research. There was a hearing held to determine what would happen to the drug and MDMA was finally giving the right to test the drug for future manufacturing. This was only the beginning of a long battle. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) immediately over turned the ruling and MDMA was banned and placed on the list of Schedule I (one) drugs with no proven therapeutic value.
