here is quite a long list of goods the forest produces for the peoples that live within the rainforest. It provides item such as food, fiber, fodder, fuel, building materials, as well as medicines.(Pierce) The forest also provides habitat for wildlife, as well as for the indigenous people that call the rainforest home. The rainforest plays a role in helping the regulation of the water passing through it and so it protects its self from erosion. The great problem consequently though is nearly all the people that live within the rainforest, depend on the lands that are contained with in it to provide them with items that are crucial to their existence. There are a few other aspects that the rainforest is good for. The trees of the rainforest protect the soil from the effects of the tropical heat, rain and wind. Soil temperatures are also affected by the tree canopies that the rainforest trees provide. This canopy also provides for the recalculation of organic matter that restores soil structure and micro biota. The tree canopy also enhances the moisture and nutrient holding abilities of the soil. (Detwyler) Bacteria that is contained on the roots of these trees provides nitrogen as fertilizer, while the fungus on the roots can convert soil minerals into useful forms.(Ehrlich) The removal of these items will have a very lasting effect on the environment.
There are certain groups of people that can be held responsible for these terrible happenings. The actions that they are undertaking are crucial to their existence and the further betterment of the people that call the rainforest home. There are two keys groups of people that are leading the destruction of this precious environment.
