. Constitution plays a major role in the history of cults. The first amendment of the constitution states that the government will not interfere with any person’s religious views. It says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” This amendment makes it easier for Americans to exercise their personal religions without any interference of the law.
Most religions that are around today started out as a cult but changed into the more formal churches they are today. Cults have been known to have several religious elements including: the need of being chosen and ready to give up everything for their group. The new members ignore the warning signs of trouble and a preparation of sacrifices is made. Attachments to family and friends are severed but the members become more powerful as a person and accept fear and life as it now is. Giving to the group, the members are drawn to the inner circle of the group (West n.p.). As the new religions grow larger and more popular they become pillars in the community.
