Is there a better way to punish criminals for such horrible crimes or is capital punishment the only solution.
In order to ensure that criminals who commit such heinous acts as multiple murders and murder while in the commission of a felony remain isolated from society, the death penalty must remain a viable option. The use of any other sentence will likely release these offenders back among our children and loved ones, endangering their safety. An actual life sentence occurs very rarely these days as prison overcrowding forces the early release of some of our most dangerous criminals. The life without possibility of parole sentence has sought to provide a stringent alternative to the death penalty, but its use occurs too sparingly and violent criminals, such as the ones on Death Row, end up being released quite often. Even with a life sentence, the longest incarceration, prisoners become eligible for parole after serving only twelve years, a very lenient sentence for taking the life of another human.
