Many of the pictures of war published in the mainstream magazines such as Time and Newsweek portray a very happy Iraqi citizenry rejoicing and welcoming the coalition troops. A prime example of varied views among media could be noted among the recent highly televised and reported destruction of Saddam Hussein’s statue in the Baghdad town square. The article by Deborah Orr in Time magazine praised the “liberation” brought by the coalition military, and reported the greatness of the solidarity shown among Iraqi people as they toppled Saddam’s statue in Fardous Square, with help from the military (Orr, 2003).
