Thomas Hobbes write in the Leviathan, what he thinks is need for a government to work. He talks about how men are always in a state of war with one another (Hobbes p.357) Hobbes said that a “state of nature” life is a nasty, poor, short and burnished. (Hobbes p.357) Hobbes has a idea the only way to protect ones liberty is to enter a “social contract” that everyone give up a little liberty to gain protection for their property. The Leviathan would be the entrusted to maintained order, and be judge and the punisher went one break the “social contract”. (Hobbes)
John Locke’s Two Treatises on Government talk about property of oneself. The one own body is his poverty to build his own wealthy. (Locke 385) The “poverty of labor” the freedom to use your hands were and how you choose, in order gain “goods”.
Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations, talk about how government should not get involved in a free market. (Smith p. 494) Smith believes that human interest would be more successfully when there is a society of economic freedom. (Smith p. 494)
These three men believes that the role of the government is to protect the society, and that everyone is free to do what is there best interest, only time went your can have liberty is went you abuse the liberty of your fellow man.
The school of liberal though can be linked to Pericles, and maybe even to Niccolo Machiavelli. Some of believes of Pericles that good citizen is everyone, that people should have interest in pubic affaire, and not to be mad at your neighbor if he acting out his liberty. Also the individual should try and over come inequity...
