B. Diffraction
Diffraction is the change in frequency and or direction of light when passed through a transparent medium. If you stick a straw in water and look at it from the side of a clear glass, you will see that the straw appears to be point one way above the water, and pointing another way underneath the water. This effect is called diffraction. This example is not the exact implementation as the diffraction used in holograms, but the basic terminology and idea comes from the same place.
C. Interference Pattern
When light waves intersect with other light waves they can have two effects depending upon the phase and or frequency of the light waves. These two results are constructive interference or deconstructive interference. Constructive interference means that the light waves are interfering with one another to change the result, but the end result from constructive interference enhances the light waves at that point. Deconstructive interference results in a decreased amplitude between the 2 waves.
The light waves can be interfering constructively or deconstructively with one another at multiple levels. The crests and the troughs of these interference resultants are the points of constructive and deconstructive interference. Interfering waves can result in wave packets if they are on a identical trajectory. In this case of holograms we will not result in wave packets.
