According to Sternberg (1986), love can exist in several forms depending on the presence or absence of three components… passion, intimacy and commitment (as cited in Byrne, 2004). One could hope that Micah and Rachel’s marriage was consummate love. However, even in the absence of passion companionate love could suffice. Communication- Through their maturity, often age related, are they able to communicate with each other effectively. Not only do they communicate, but are also able to execute decisions.
How do the events of this case illustrate that physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development are intricately related? How can this be shown for Micah?
In accordance to the BiPS Model (Byrne, 2004, p.7) it can be argued that physical, social, emotional, and intellectual developments are intricately related in that: Biologically- Micah could possibly be older than Rachel, as men often are, and thus be prone to more medical illness. More importantly, and in agreement with the BiPS Model is with age taken into consideration, dealing with the reality of death goes hand in hand with age and maturity. His new need for a walking cane is just another small example of how age influences physical capabilities. Socially- Micah could possibly be an immigrant, solely based on his name and for the sake of this argument.
