1. The myth is centered on nature in the way that these people’s lives revolve around nature. Their survival is linked to what nature provides for them. All of the animals benefit the people in some way whether it be food or shelter or as a pet. It is what they focus all of their learning and beliefs on. The king puts his own selfish desires over his people’s needs. He chooses to save his daughter and kill all his people. The consequences of his actions are that his daughter is taken away from him forever and all his people die from starvation. The loon is the first one to rescue the princess and gets the other animals to help him. The animals plan to dive to the bottom of the ocean and retrieve a piece of earth for the Sky Woman to live on. The retrieve a piece and place it on the turtle’s back and stretches it out eventually to make Great Island. She gives birth to Good Twin and Evil Twin to show the good and evil in people but eventually good wins over evil. It also explains the people’s feeling about certain things on earth, whether it be good feelings to the deer and bison, or bad feelings to the mosquito, and mountains.
2. The culture Medea lives in is male dominated. The men are held as the most important people in the community to who do all the decision making, warring, and leading. Women had few rights, and had to leave her family at marriage to depend of her husband and his family. Medea kills her children because she does not want them to live in a society where they are not citizens and have no father to protect them. After Jason married Glauce, Medea was jealous and wanted revenge on Jason so she thought taking his sons away from him would punish him severely. I feel that she made an extremely selfish decision, and had the option to spare her sons from a hard life and let them live with Jason. She was too caught up in her self to allow them a better life.
