Capital Punishment
No person has the right to take the life of another. In some people’s opinion however capital punishment is a good way to punish a person for an unforgivable crime. But, how does a person decipher what an unforgivable crime is. Not only is capital punishment morally wrong it also costs our government a lot of excess money that could be spent in other more important places. Maybe the death penalty would be a good punishment for some crimes but, in reality there is no sure way to know if the criminal is really guilty. And the death penalty is something that can’t be taken back so, it should not be a solution unless there is no possible way that accused might be innocent.
Capital punishment is a possible sentence in most states. But, every state has a different idea of what crimes the death penalty should be a punishment for. In California a person could be sentenced with the death penalty for wrecking a train (Crimes Punishable by the Death Penalty). Although not many people just go around wrecking trains it seems ridiculous that a person could be put to death for doing something that would probably not even be in their control. California however is the only state that considers train wrecking so bad that it would deserve the death penalty. In most states murder and treason are the only crimes that are punishable by death. But, in Florida drug trafficking and sexual battery could be punishable by death. In Georgia, Idaho and Kentucky kidnapping is also a crime that a person could be sentenced with the death penalty for (Crimes Punishable by the Death Penalty). Although kidnapping is a terrible crime only three states consider it bad enough to let it be punishable by death. If a person were to kidnap a child in Alabama they would go to prison for a while but, if they were to commit the same exact crime in Georgia they could be put to death.
