Gun Control


On the brink of yet another war, one of the issues that seems to arise once again is “Gun Control”. There is an infinite amount of views on this highly controversial topic. Many claim that those who keep and bear arms are greatest dangers to society and are cast as the major threat to children’s safety. Others however argue quite a different perspective on the matter. They believe guns provide a sense of personal security in an insecure world.
In the United States about 10,000 people die annually due to guns. These deaths are mostly caused by illegal arms on the streets. Another major factor for this death rate however is the careless way in which gun bearing individuals store their arms at home and around their children. Guns, by many are believed to create nothing but turmoil, and to take innocent lives day after day. Many people claim in the modern day that firearms can be used for nothing else other than raising crime rate and creating chaos.
On the flip side of this equation, other groups believe quite differently. First of all guns are a personal right of the American people, granted by the Constitution of the United States. One of the biggest advocates for guns is the National Rifle Association. (NRA) states that “firearms do not kill, people do”. If illegal guns are off the streets, the homicide rate would hardly diminish, instead the use of other weapons such as knives and bats will rise. One of the major arguments of the NRA is that guns if used properly guard life instead of taking it away.
If guns are in the proper hands instead of hands of criminals, they will save lives day in and day out. If they are licensed to civilians by the state and are carried and stored according to regulation, they can provide safety in a number of situations. A gun can save a life and protect one’s family and property during an attack on the street, or during an invasion into someone’s home. ...
