to the police force, army, and National Guard of today’s society. These groups are “necessary to the security of a free state,” and “have the right to bear arms.” The police force and National Guard have taken the place of the militia, and there is no longer a need for anyone else to have guns.
In the US there are approximately two hundred million privately owned guns for a population of just over 275 million. This is statistically close to a gun per person, and places more than one gun per household on average. Since there are many people who do not own guns, it means that the people who do, could have many more than just one. If someone has more than one gun, they would be more likely to sell one (or more of them) to minors, or criminals (without being able to run a background check on the potential buyer). There is also the possibility that they would be stockpiling them for future use. In other words, guns are everywhere, they affect everyone’s life, and it is usually in a harmful way.
