Crazy Horse would lead surprise attacks against the U.S. Army to try and get the land back that the U.S. was using to build forts, roads, and to obtain gold. Finally, in 1868 a treaty was created that gave the Sioux land from the Missouri River to the Black Hills, it would also give the Native Americans rations. However, the peace did not last long. In 1874 gold was discovered in the Black Hills, the U.S. then decided to move the Native Americans to reservations, offering the tribes money, which they would never receive.
