Joining the Zapatistas were rebel groups near and far. Of course, there were also groups who held the same enemies as the Zapatistas, but either wanted any glory for themselves, or were opponents of the Zapatistas as well. This selfishness that enveloped all parties in the war is the underlying cause; however, it was most detrimental to rebel bands as their possible unification and compromise may have shown the overall success of the revolution- not only in overthrowing Diaz, or temporarily winning back Morelos, but also in all the quests that each particular party pursued, especially agrarian reform, and this came to be accepted by different bands along the way, although perhaps on different levels.
