The book also contains an appendix ranging from A-G. Appendix A deals with the Legions of Rome, from 30 B.C.- 233 A.D. In this appendix, Collins lists over 50 Legions that existed in this time period. According to Collins, this source comes from Cassius Dio. Cassius dio was a Greek historian born in the Roman province of Bithynia in about 150 A.D. He joined the Senate under the emperor Commudus. Dio worked from existing sources and clearly based much of his first century narrative on Tacitus. Appendix B consists of the reenlistment factors of the Roman Legions. The reenlistment factor allows us to calculate the ages of the legions, because all new recruits were a minimum of twenty years of age on entry into the Imperial Legions.
