What do you get when you take twenty-one carbon atoms, twenty hydrogen atoms and throw in 2 oxygen atoms? Yes, that’s correct you get the most common drug used in America cannabis. Cannabis is a fast- growing bushy annual plant with dense sticky flowers that produce the psychoactive THC. Cannabis thrives from the Cannabaceae family with the genus being Cannabis the species is sativa; indica. Cannabis is more commonly know as Marijuana, Marihuana, pot, weed, grass, and many other slang term used. The strength of cannabis varies greatly from one variety to another. Some, known as 'one-hit-shit', requires only a single lung-full to reach full effects while other varieties require many hits to achieve the same effects. Additionally, the amount that one individual likes to smoke can be many times what another prefers. Generally, 1/8 ounce (3.5 g) of mid-quality bud could get around 20-30 people reasonably high. The active ingredients in cannabis are called cannabinoids. There are many cannabinoids synthesized by the plant including tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabinol, cannabidiol, cannabinolidic acid, cannabigerol, and cannabichromene. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is thought to be responsible for most of the psychoactive effects of cannabis and is the active ingredient in synthetic THC pills such as marinol.
There are many different types of effects that cannabis can cause. Some of the positive effects are; mood lifts, relaxation, stress reduction, creativeness, deep thinking, more appreciation for music, pleasant body feeling, pain relief, reduced nausea, increased appetite, and boring tasks become more exciting. Some neutral effects are; slowness, tiredness, sleepiness, blood shot eyes, mouth dryness, difficulty following a train of thought, facial numbness, and cars seem like they are moving too fast.
