Smoking is harmful
Does smoking do any harm to the human body? Some have heard it in the news, paper, or from a friend that a loved one had died from smoking. This argument paper is going to persuade Americans that smoking is harmful to a person’s health. One thing that a person can get is lung cancer from smoking too long. Second, the air that Americans breath will be healthier if there were no smokers. Last, if you have a smoke free work place, then teenagers on the street will be less likely to pick up this nasty habit.
Many people overreact and assume that there is little chance in getting lung cancer from smoking. Smoking increases your risk of lung cancer, throat cancer, a lung disease called emphysema, heart disease, high blood pressure, ulcers, gum disease, and makes asthma worse. Second hand, smoke causes heart disease cancer and respiratory illness. While other people who do not have, a family history of cancer may assume that cancer is not likely to strike them. “Smokers and the families of deceased smokers have lined up to sue cigarette manufacturers over deaths or serious illnesses allegedly caused by tobacco” (Action on Smoking and health). The latest count forty-one states had filed suits against cigarette manufacturers to recoup the state health care costs attributed to patients with smoking-related illnesses. While heredity does play a major role with the regard to some cancers, it plays only a small role about others. In addition, with regard to all cancers, the role of bad habits of smoking is more important than heredity. Therefore, even if there is a history of cancer in your family, you can still do a lot to reduce the risk of cancer. If cancer does not run in your family, you are still at a major risk if you engage in a wide variety of bad habits.
