a. This article clearly stated that stress is a major part of a dental hygienist’s profession. There was a brief introduction to the body’s response to stress in three steps, and the physical regulation methods that naturally occur in the body when subjected to stress. Dental hygienists, in particular, may have high levels of stress because they deal with tight schedules, time constraints, personal relations with nervous patients, and an intense work environment. There was a great deal of emphasis on the fact that one’s perception of stress is the key in how it affects the body. Because all people deal with situations differently, the level of stress is directly related to their reaction.
b. This was an informative, rather than opinionated article. The author presented the facts pertaining to this issue and included published citations to support the information. There was no evident opinion throughout the article.
c. The research done for this article was from several different sources. One study was mentioned that supported this statement: “70-80% of all illness is stress-related.” It was determined by Brian Luke Seaward, a faculty member at the University of Colorado.
