the exact same income. What makes the guideless to poverty even worse is that the taxes

and everything has not been taken out yet and the expenses that the person has to pay.

Look at the average salary for someone who does not complete the ninth grade and the

federal guide lines for poverty. Now in order for this person to be considered poor they

have to have a family of eight or more. That is just not realistic for Massachusetts because

the expenses in Massachusetts are high maybe if it was a state where it was not that

expensive to live the guides would be fine but not for Massachusetts. In order to make

these guidelines realistic, I think that each state should make up their own poverty guide

line because they know the income for their state and where the level of poverty really

begins.
The majority of people living in poverty are children under 18 years of age, next is

the elderly 65 years and older. Married Couples also live in poverty especially if they

have children but more single women with children live in a higher level of poverty.

Elderly people living alone live in poverty but out of all these groups for the highest level

of poverty are the single women with children under the age of 18 (census,1).The Highest

levels of children who are under 18 and live in poverty are Blacks and Hispanics, then

there is White and Asian and the least amount of children in poverty under the age of 18

are Non White Hispanics (census, 1-29). Blacks have few married couples and they have

high percentage of single females with children under the age of 18 living in poverty.

Hispanics have more married couples then Blacks but they also have a high percentage of

single females with children under the age of 18 (census, 16-17). Whites and Asians both

have a lower percentage in marriage than Hispa...
