Democaracy Vs Totaliatarian

1 Pages 340 Words

Democracy and a Totalitarian government differ greatly. One form of democracy, known as representative democracy or republic, is the government to which we as Americans are familiar with today. In a republic people are free to express their will and opinions through elected representatives. If they feel the representative is not doing well with the task at hand the people have the e right to vote him or her out. In a republic such as the U.S we believe all men are created equal, no one better than the next. However in a totalitarian government, such as fascism, different ideas and beliefs are practiced. The leader is known as the dictator, one incapable of error. This dictator cannot be removed. It’s true that people can own property but they have no power to govern themselves. They are not allowed to express their will or opinion. The government stands with absolute power not able to be taken down by the people. The peoples power is not limited its non-existent. The government is run by the belief that people are not equal. Some ethnic groups are better than others and men are better than women. These are ideas that Americans have left in the past; sadly in some countries this belief rules the present. Fascism existed during WWI with Adolph Hitler, a man who stood for hate, as dictator of Germany. A time most Americans and all Jews wish never existed.
The goals of democracy cannot be compared with those of Totalitarianism. The beliefs are complete opposites with opposite goals. One is government run by the people and for the people and the other is a government run by harsh leaders who allow people basically no rights. Democracy stands for freedom while totalitarianism stands for repression. To compare the two is unthinkable and unfair. The beliefs held by the two are completely different and the goals aren’t even in the same spectrum....
