Our Nation Grows

Over the recent years there has been much controversy in the account of rewriting the United States Constitution. There are the people who believe that the document should not be changed or revised. They believe that the Constitution is some kind of sacred historical document that should not be altered, even if it is for the better. The United States of America has gone through drastic changes since the ratification of the Constitution. Not only has the population greatly increased, but also our nation has changed politically and culturally. With our transforming nation the Constitution should be rewritten so it fits the needs of our people today.
The men that took the first steps in the formation of the Constitution were highly concerned about their personal possessions and the outcome of their labor. It has been over two hundred years since the ideas in the Constitution were drafted. There is an insurmountable difference between the outlooks on the economy today compared to the economy in 1787. If politicians rewrote the Constitution concerning the needs of America today it would benefit the structure of our nation as a whole.
Such growth has taken place in the United States that the sections of the Constitution dealing with taxation seem out dated and confusing. Section eight of the constitution gives congress the powers to tax the people to fund common defense and general welfare. What is considered common defense today? Who is to say when general welfare becomes subgenera? The extent of welfare and defense funding today was not even dreamt of during the making of the Constitution. The United States Constitution is like a glove that does not fit our growing Nation anymore.
A rewritten form of the constitution is in need even if there are no drastic changes made. A great deal of editing and revising could be done to make the document easier to understand for the average American. Up to date ter...
