Television?
Watching television is one of the world’s new favorite past times. Ever since the introduction in the 1950’s, television has replaced the need for family interaction. Today people view sitting down and watching TV with their family as being a source of a good family activity. I believe that television can not be a worthwhile activity because, it takes away from your physical health, it makes adult content more readily available to children, and it takes away from time that the family should be spending talking.
Television takes away from physical heath because instead of going out and playing a sport or going to the gym to work out, people choose to sit in front of the television and eat snacks. This is not healthy because of the simple fact you are sit not moving much while your area watching television and you are eating. Eating and watching television at the same time will cause you to gain weight, and according to doctors today being over weight is not healthy.
Television can also be healthy though depending on how it is used. If a person uses it to watch a workout instruction it can be very healthy. For example the Ty-Bo videotapes that can be played on a television can be very healthy and keep you physically fit.
As a result of the introduction of television into society, adult content can more easily affect children because; television makes it more readily accessible. Television shows such as Jerry Springer that airs right about the time that most children are leaving school. This is not acceptable programming for children to watch it portrays crazy adult sexual acts, and violence. Sitcoms are also an excellent source for children to learn about adult activities too early in their childhood.
On the other hand television can also be very worth while for children if the right programming is shown to them. Programs such as Bill Nye the science guy will entertain them as well as enrich their young minds ...
