NEW ORLEANS -- The NFL is considering scaling back festivities during Super Bowl
week.

The league might drop the Friday night commissioner's party and revise the NFL
Experience, a hands-on amusement park with a pro football theme.

"The rescheduling of the Super Bowl has created a major logistical challenge," NFL
spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday. "Part of the planing process will include
modifying Super Bowl week in appropriate ways to reflect current national priorities."

The NFL postponed Week 2 of the regular season after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on
the United States. It decided to play those games on the first weekend in January. The
Super Bowl was moved back to Feb. 3 when the NFL and the National Automobile
Dealers Association agreed to swap dates.

NADA's convention was scheduled for what will now be Super Bowl week. The game
originally was scheduled for Jan. 27.

Jim Steeg, the league's director of special events, is in New Orleans this week.

Among the league's problems is finding 18,000 hotel rooms. The auto convention
required 10,000 rooms.

New Orleans officials already have rescheduled Mardi Gras parades so they will not
conflict with Super Bowl week events.

The NFL also is expected to turn some events into fund-raisers for the relief effort....
