Zorro has been captivating audiences for nearly a century. He has been played by many different actors, but his character has never changed. Zorro possesses many heroic qualities, which include wit, bravery, fighting skills, and deceptively good looks. Zorro must always use his skills when he fights the greedy and insatiable Dons. Zorro will continue to entertain audiences until people lose their need for the “hero” and become ignorant to the joy that Zorro has been bringing us for almost 100 years.

The legend of Zorro dates back to the year 1918. He was introduced in the novel The Curse of Capistrano, written by Johnston McCulley. The story became the first of 65 popular adventures in which the great Zorro fights prejudice in southern California. Zorro is portrayed as a romantic, Robin Hood-type that exhibits qualities of a classic hero. Zorro was created by McCulley to fulfill the public’s need for a fictional do-gooder who makes them feel a sense of comfort.

The Mask of Zorro shows the new generation of Zorro, as a new character now becomes the amazing Zorro. Don Diego de la Vega is now too old to still be Zorro and after 20 years in prison, he trains Alejandro to follow in his footsteps. Alejandro’s brother was shot and killed by Captain Love and now he wanted revenge for his brother. Once his training is finished, Alejandro, or Zorro, infiltrates into the house of Don Pedro dressed as Don Alejandro with his servant, an aged de la Vega. Don Alejandro becomes part of their circle and is shown the gold mine the Dons have been running. They plan to buy California from Mexico with Mexico’s own gold, considering that Santa Ana does not know of the mine’s existence. Zorro then becomes aware that the mine will be blown up after their transaction to erase all the evidence.
