The main plot of the movie is that a gas and electric company “PGE” has been poisoning a nearby community. A secretary at a law firm realizes this and starts to investigate. The more that the secretary investigates, the more problems she runs into. By the end of the movie they have six hundred plaintiffs affected by the poison. They were successful in their lawsuit and became a very large law firm.
Ed is Erin’s boss who has a big heart and actually cares about his clients. Erin is a mother of three that works at a law firm for her boss Ed. Erin works hard but doesn’t really have any qualifications. George is Erin’s neighbor and love interest. He also watches her children while she is at work.
This movie takes place on the west coast in the early to mid 1990’s. Erin and her children live in a middle class neighborhood. Erin spends most of her time in a lower class desert community where the contamination of the water took place by the electric company.
I think the director of this movie is trying to convey the importance of the real life situation that took place. I feel the director wanted his audience to realize how much this situation was truly a David vs. Goliath story and that the little guy can rise to the occasion and come out on top. I think this movie was written because it was a great story about a morally wrong act with a triumphant outcome which I believe was truly inspiring.
The moral dilemma in the movie was that an electric company by the name of PGE lied about the contents in the water to the local citizens by telling them it was safe for them to consume but they knew it was harmful but by telling them that the water was not perfect they had from that time until one year later for anyone to file suit against them because of the statute of limitations so they took the chance. Erin Brockovich was given a job at a law firm just to do clerical work but she stumbled ...
