O Brother, Where Art Thou?” contains such great actors as George Clooney as Ulysses Everett McGill, John Turturro as Pete, Tim Blake Nelson as Delmar, and John Goodman as Big Dan T. This Comedy is set in the 1920’s and follows Clooney and his friends throughout Southern Mississippi during the great depression. In the span of five days this film depicts the lives of three escaped convicts from a chain gang. They battle threat of police, liars, thieves, bullies and more all to, which is uncertain to us and Clooney’s friends until the near end of the film, save his marriage.
This film just made me feel good inside. I’m tired of today’s gun slinging, supposedly “ACTION PACKED”, love, mystery films. You can only write about the same things so many times before people realize it’s the same thing. I liked the films, color, setting, characters, plot, and overall viewing experience. It seemed to lend it’s self to me as a friend along for the ride. Even the evil characters seemed to have a demeanor about them that didn’t make you want to dislike them or their actions.
The director of photography had a variety of choices to utilize. A few techniques such as bleach bypass, which is where you leave in the color silver, which acts as a catalyst to the color development, that in turn acts as a black and white cover. They also thought about flashing the negatives. This is a process where you “Flash” the negatives to the light and it gives the picture a softer look. But they decided to use a process called Digital Intermedia Process, here they use a computer program called a color corrector to adjust ever element of an image.
I feel one important thing about this films success was the color. For the first time, the look of an entire motion picture was manipulated digitally with “O Brother Where Art Thou?”. This film looked more like a dry and dusty and had the look of an old picture book rather than appe...
