Sex and violence on television is now ludicrous. I do watch it and like it, but the fact that young children are watching the same thing I am is not right. My nephew is six (6) years old and watches the Power Rangers, a television show for children that is on early in the morning. It features teenagers who transform into machines that “fight” evil. Every time I see my nephew he punches me in the face or kicks me in my shins. I notice that most of his friends do the same. This is something that needs to stop because children need to be aware of the fact that fighting is wrong. Young children, mostly boys, walk around and grope their private parts. Seeing a child do this makes me wonder about the content of the shows they are watching. It does not always pertain to children, but that is problem. Children see someone being killed or beaten up on television and they think that is okay. The only problem is that sex and violence sells, and there is nothing that we can do to get rid of it. There are four alternatives to help stop sex and violence on television: The V-Chip, Market Competition, Industry Self Regulation, and Advocate Groups.

The percentage is a good start, but children watch TV more so it almost cancels itself out. A 1995 poll of children ten to sixteen years of age showed that children recognize that "what they see on television encourages them to take part in sexual activity too soon, to show disrespect for their parents, [and] to lie and to engage in aggressive behavior." More than two-thirds said they are influenced by television; 77 percent said TV shows too much sex before marriage and 62 percent said sex ...
