The Night the DeFeos Died


On September 13th, 1974, in a sleepy town of Amityville, Long Island, New York a family of six slept the night away. Ronald DeFeo the oldest of four siblings and his sister Marie were the only ones awake as they planned their parents death in cold blood. As Ron and Marie were planning they were taking shots of whiskey and snorting lines of coke in their Amityville home basement. Ronny grabbed a shotgun and proceeded up two flights of stairs to his parents bedroom. He fired one shot into his fairly big back of his father, one shot was also fired into his mothers chest; they died instantaneous.

Marie followed Ronny up the stairs to their sibling’s bedrooms. The youngest Bobby was quaintly sleeping solo, Marie giggled and her brother fired a new shot killing his only brother. She grabbed the large gun and proceeded to Stacey’s bedroom where the end of her life sadly ended. Ron went downstairs and proceeded to the bar to meet up with his friend Tim as Marie stayed home. While at home Marie finally comprehended what she did, she panicked under the influence took a 9 mm beside her bed and committed suicide. Ronny came home with his friend Tim to discover everyone was dead, Tim smelled the house in horror.” “What happened Ronny”? Tim questioned, “Me and my sister killed our family, put this gun in your melting pot, the police will never find it there”.”( Quoted in the book “The Night the Defeos Died”)

Ronny walked up stairs to discover his sister shot and killed herself, a gruesome sight. He called it a night, slept and went to work the next morning. At Work Ronny was arrested, at court he told the judge his sister Marie was involved and that he shouldn’t get the full sentence. Since Marie obviously couldn’t testify on the stand Ronald DeFeo was sentenced 20 years to life.
