I personally don’t really enjoy Y Tu Mama Tambien. The only way you can enjoy it is if you’re very familiar with Mexican history. For any one else, they would just think of this movie as you stereotypical just graduated form high school road trip. The only way you can understand the movie for the ways the writer intended is if you pay very close attention to the narrator and all the things he hints to. For example, how the narrator tells the story of how the man was hit by the bus and it seems as if that sequence is just tossed into the movie and has nothing to do with the plot and also the time the narrator tells the story of Tenoch’s nanny who he called his mother until he was four, but in actuality there is meaning behind it and your average viewer probably doesn’t even realize this.
But anyways, the movie starts off with Julio and Tenoch, who are best friends even though they come from different social classes, Julio being from the lower class and Tenoch the upper, saying goodbye to their girlfriends as the girls leave for Europe for the summer. Then after the goodbyes Julio and Tenoch plan on this summer being the best ever and that it will be filled with sex drugs, and fun. But it doesn’t start off that way, they are shown filled with boredom as it shows them going swimming and masturbating together. Then Julio and Tenoch meet Luisa, form Madrid, Spain, who is married to one of Tenoch’s cousins. They hit on her and lie to her about a beautiful beach called heaven’s mouth and invite her to come along with them as if they were visiting this made up beach.
Later on Luisa gets a call from her husband and he admits to cheating on her, that is when Luisa decides to take up Tenoch on his offer and go with them to this beach. So Julio and Tenoch have to make up this road trip and go to this beach that they made up. With help from a friend they come up with a plan and start on their trip to heaven’s ...
