Pay It Forward

In the movie “Pay it Forward”, a group of young students are given a rather challenging assignment. Mr. Simonet, a social studies teacher, tells each of his students that they can change the world and it is an ongoing assignment for the year. Most kids in the class were annoyed by such a strange idea, however a student by the name of Trevor decides that he will try and accomplish it. Trevor’s idea to change the world is called “pay it forward”. It involves one person doing a big favor for three other people, who then help another three people, and so on. Trevor decides that he will start by helping his friend, who has been being harassed my a few violent bullies at their school. Trevor is stabbed by a bully as he interferes with a fight between his friend and the bullies.
At first, Trevor was concerned with his assignment in the class, but he later realized that he really wanted to help his three people and did not care about the grade he got for his idea. Trevor did not die trying to do a dangerous assignment, he was simply trying to protect his friend. Mr. Simonet’s assignment was not the reason Trevor died. The assignment was simply a way for him to get the children in his class to think about the world around them, it was not really meant to change the entire world. Mr. Simonet is in no way responsible for Trevor’s death, Trevor was simply a very caring boy who was willing to put himself in danger to try and help his friend.
Trevor saw the boy sneak a knife into school on the first day. He knew that the group of bullies were dangerous, it was his decision to try and stop them. Trevor was influenced by the assignment, however he did not feel obligated to change the world by any means necessary. The assignment did what it was suppose to; it made Trevor think about the world and what was wrong with it.
