The role of media plays too great a part in the political process. As far as I’m concerned the media pries too deeply into the private lives of people in the public eye that it makes it almost impossible for them to live a normal life. It has come to the point where even the children of these political figures cannot act like normal teenagers because of the spotlight on their parents.
The information that we are given about our political figures is becoming ridiculous. We can read in the paper about such private information as how the Presidential candidates scored on their physical exams. Actions or words in a candidates past can come back to haunt them in their quest for political office.
Mediums of media can be used to attempt to dig up ghosts in candidates’ closets. We saw this when Larry Flynt offered money to anyone with accusations of infidelity in political figures pasts. Infidelity should be a matter that is dealt within a family and should not become public information. The extreme scenario was seen when President Clinton was impeached due to infidelity in his private life. The primary reason for this case be blown largely out of proportion was due to the medias attention.
Even the children of political figures can’t escape the pressure and problems that media bring. Would the Bush twins have been treated so harshly or have been noticed drinking underage if they weren’t the children of a political figure? Would the clerk have known for a fact that the id’s they had wasn’t really them if they had not been in the media spotlight? The media makes it impossible for them to lead a normal college life because of their dad.
Overall the media’s influence in the political process negatively affects all those involved directly and indirectly. They have infringed upon the private lives of those political figures claiming that the publics right to know is greater then those leader’s right to a private l...
