is part of our nature to judge people on impressions, but that doesn’t mean that we cannot change it. Victor Frankenstein for example, upon meeting with his teachers decides that he prefers:
This professor...very unlike his colleague. He appeared about fifty years of age but with an aspect expressive of the greatest benevolence; a few grey hairs covered his temples, but those at the back of his head were nearly black. His person was short, but remarkably erect; and his voice, the sweetest I had ever heard.(27)
This person he is describing is M. Waldman whom he has just met who plays a minor role in the story. This description comes after meeting “M. Krempe... a little squat man, with a gruff voice and repulsive countenance...therefore, did not prepossess me in favor of his doctrine”(27). It seems as though all cultures were willing to accept each other except the European, power-hungry men. They could not get over the subtle differences between themselves and other cultures, and therefore considered themselves better people.
