Child abuse has extremely high numbers and is the least reported crime in the nation. Estimates of child sexual abuse include that seventy-five percent of the perpetrators are well known to the child being victimized, thus meaning that the people who are supposed to protect these children are sexually abusing them (Gordon et al.). Sexual abuse is the least reported crime in the nation, during a study that examined the relationship between child sexual abuse and subsequent onsets of psychiatric disorders, thirteen and a half percent of women reported being sexually abused, where as only two and half percent of men reported the incidents (Buka, Kessler, Molnar). Sexual abuse causes many disorders and physical problems beyond the time of the abuse. Women showed fourteen mood, anxiety, and substance abuse disorders and only five disorders were shown by men (Buka et al.). These statistics show that these disorders are onset throughout life, and when sexual abuse occurs, especially at a developmental stage, these children grow up to by psychologically damaged, and turn to substance abuse to push their childhood out of their lives. Among these disorders that the teens and adults go through consist of social disorders, such as high-risk sex, promiscuity, and prostitution (Maltz). Mental behavioral disorders consist of depression, self-abusive behavior, substance abuse, low self-esteem, role confusion, personality disorders, and sex and relationship difficulties (Maltz). Child sexual abuse as also been linked to anxiety disorders, phobias, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or better known as PTSD (Buka et al.) which is a disorder found in war veterans. This information only proves further why adults and children should be educated of the consequences of perpetrators and the after affects of the perpetrators damage. Ch...
